Exclusive Thai Décor is proud to bring a portion of your purchase and donate to “The Friends of the Asian Elephants” (FAE) and help raise awareness of problems faced by elephants in Thailand and Southeast Asia that become injured or sick due to poor care.
FAE raised awareness of elephants as landmine victims first in a photo display at the Fifth Meeting of States Party to the Mine Ban Treaty held in Bangkok in 2003, bringing this issue to the forefront of national and international leaders.
In August of 2005, the FAE Hospital fitted its first elephant sized prosthetic to Motala, a elephant victimized by an anti-personnel landmine in Burma in 1999, who drew world-wide attention to elephant mine victims from Burma when she became the first elephant to go through amputative surgery. It took three months for the limb to be accepted as a prosthetic.
Only around 3,000 elephants remain in Thailand and when comparing this figure to 100,000 elephants in 1900 it brings the future of Asian Elephants into question. This future is especially in question since the International Union for Conservation has classed the species as ‘Endangered’ since 1977. Currently it is estimated that of the 3,000 remaining elephants in Thailand around 2,000 of these are in captivity or used in the tourism industry and the overall population continues to decrease at a rate of almost 3 percent per year.
Exclusive Thai Décor is truly proud to help the Asian elephant and continue to preserver the Thai culture surrounding this beautiful creature for many future generations to come. You may donate directly to this cause by clicking on the PayPal Donation button, this will allow you to donate any amount towards this great cause using PayPal's secure online system.
