Kalaga's
Artistically Stunning Wall Art from Thailand
Your Insiders View of the Largest Selection of Kalaga's on the Web!
One of the secrets designers use to create beautiful rooms is to choose a special piece of artwork as a focal point, and then use the colors from that art to accessorize the rest of the room. Making a vibrantly colored, hand-woven Kalaga wall hanging your focal point will provide you with a great palette of colors to create this effect.
Each Kalaga is unique, made by hand in Northern Thailand. Each of these exquisite, traditional tapestries is lined with silk. Each individual piece features hundreds to thousands of beads, stones, and sequins. Some may take up to a year to create. Kalagas (“foreign curtain” in Sanskrit) are hand embroidered on cotton velvet and stuffed with kapok creating a three-dimensional effect.
Since each piece is handcrafted, dimensions may not be perfectly even, and the textural details are subject to variations since each artisan’s work will differ. The process of making these gorgeous wall hangings dates back generations and the techniques are still meticulously followed by skill artisans, resulting in artwork you’ll be proud to display.
